This article briefly outlines 5 sins that might be blocking God’s blessings in your life. It also offers simple yet effective steps on how to clear those blocks.
Five manners through which you might be innocently blocking God’s blessings.
- Refusing to be a Blessing
Jesus clearly stated that when a person gives those in needs, it will be give back to them, in fact, so much that the cup overflows with blessings. He commanded this in Luke 6:28 “Give, and it shall be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you”.
If this is so, how can you expect God’s blessings if you are not being a blessing to God? The simple fix to this is to start giving! Don’t think about it, just give!!!
- Nurturing unforgiveness
Christians over the world understand that if we don’t forgive others, God will not forgive us. An unforgiving heart is like drinking one’s own poison and hoping the other person suffer and dies from it. If this unforgiving nature is left unchecked, it graduates to BITTERNESS. Check Hebrew 12:5 “root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled”.
The solution to this block is by forgiving others; no one said it was easy but it is worth. Be like Jesus who on the cross still prayed for his crucifiers.
You can either choose to be content or discontent. One has to apply to you. The Bible teaches ““godliness with contentment is great gain” (1st Tim 6:6), but Paul (the Apostle) understood that it doesn’t come easy and so he said, “I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content” (Phil 4:11). Most times, he was under a state of hunger beatings, cold, being stoned, famine, peril, and imprisoned, and once left for dead, yet amidst all of this he had learnt to be content.
You too will need to learn this great Christian value and skill.
- Leaving Unconfessed Sin
You shouldn’t feel shy or too big to confess your sins to God because God cannot and will not bless a person who is constantly living in a state of sin without having true repentance. The psalmist wrote, “If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened” (Psalm 66:18).
Solution? Confess your sins right this instance and place, because “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1st John 1:9).
- Grace and Truth
Jesus commanded that if we must worship God it must be in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Jesus was full of truth and grace (John 1:14). He knew when to speak in grace and when to speak in truth. For instance, He spoke grace to the woman caught by the Pharisees for adultery and spoke truth to her accusers. A combination of these two ensures you won’t be blocking the Lord’s blessings.
